Secularism and development in India
India became a secular country after the Independence. Secularism means treating all religions equally without a difference on caste or creed. Secularism calls for respect of other's religions and practices.
Secularism before Independence
Even before independence many rulers like Asoka, Akbar supported secularism. In fact, secularism had its origin during Asoka's period.
Secularism in current India
But the concept of secularism is fading in recent days. Religion-based disputes are increasing and this affects the development of India. Together we were able to gain independence, but today we stand separated based on religious and caste grounds.
However, there are still hopes to maintain India's secularism, like the Supreme Court's decision supporting inter religious marriages.
Development in India
A nation divided against itself cannot develop. India is reaching great heights in various fields like energy, textile, technology, and communication, but its growth and development is hindered by many factors and especially inequality.
Conclusion
Today's youth are the vital tools to bring about this equality and foster secularism. If more extensive steps are taken to maintain secularism in India, then India will become a powerful and developed nation.
