I was shocked on hearing the news from my mother that we would have to leave our home forever. Our family has been living in that house for over 35 years and so we all have emotional attachment with that house. On hearing the news I was totally shocked and started crying.
I asked my mother the reason for leaving the house. She answered that my father had incurred financial losses in his business. Loans had been taken from banks by keeping our ancestral house as mortgage and being unable to repay the debt, we have no choice but to vacate the house.
The house was made by an Englishman, who later sold it to my grandfather. The architecture of the villa was elaborate with the walls made of red sandstone, carved with floral and animal images. The huge windows near the ceiling allowed ventilation making the rooms fresh and airy. From the ceiling hung a beautiful chandelier and ceiling fans. A huge pendulum clock was in the corner of the drawing room. As the house was situated near the sea shore, the view of the sun rising, the waves on the sea shore and the cool morning breeze were the highlights of the house. The room were large and spacious, and the lawn brought memories of my early childhood.
This shocking news became more evident when I saw my parents pack all our belongings into cartons and suitcases. My grandfather was deeply grieved at the turn of events and sat on a corner trying to accept the present situation.
My mother explained to us that our new home would be in the centre of town and tried to assure us that we would happy in the new apartment. As I packed some of my personal belongings, I kept aside all my toys which I had preserved but now to be given away to some charity.
As we left our home in the evening, I bid farewell to my friends and all of us were deeply anguished as the car moved away from our ancestral home.
