A Touching Tale of Sacrifice
Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do. This famous line by Robert H. Schuller aptly describes Nicola and Jacopo. These two boys saw very tough times at their tender age. They faced one loss after another. They became homeless orphans after the destruction of their family life. The worst happened after a bomb destroyed their home. They had been living a comfortable and cultured life; now they were thrown onto the streets. And they suffered horribly form starvation and cold. They built a shelter for themselves amidst the rubble of their broken home. They even enrolled to fight the Germans. The starvation and exposure to extreme cold affected Lucia, their sister with tuberculosis of the spine. The boys took her to a hospital and worked day and night to pay for the costly treatment of their sister.
They continued working hard day and night. The spirit in them was stronger than the adversities. At the end, their situation began to improve. Lucia’s health began improving. The doctors were hopeful of her recovery and becoming absolutely normal. The author saw a new hope for mankind in them. Thus they overcame their tough times with their tough spirit.
