India is the second largest glot producer of footwear after Chir accounting for 13% of
global footwear production of billion pairs. India produces 20 million pairs of different
categories of footwear (leather footwear - 909 million pairs, lea shoe uppers - 100 million
pairs and non-leather footwear 1056 million pairs). India exports about 115 million pairs.
Thus, nearly 95% of its product goes to meet its own domestic demand.
The major production centers i India are Chennai, Ranipet, Am in Tamil Nadu, Mumbai
in Maharastra, Kanpur in U.P. Jalandhar in Punjab, Agra, Delt Karnal, Ludhiana, Sonepat,
