From the poem, the dust of snow, we are aware, that the poet was initially having a bad day. He sits on a bench, under the hemlock tree, and a crow sits on top of the tree. The hemlock tree is considered poisonous, and also the crow are seen as symbols of negativity.

But though they were symbols of negativity, the way the crow shook dusts of snow upon the poet, gave him a change of mood, and saved the rest of his day.

Hence, the poem tells us, that even negative things can bring positivity, as well as make a man enlightened.
