Answer:

Too often, people and things are being misjudged because of the outward appearance in possession. It is forgotten that “behind every darkness, there is a light that is trying so hard to be seen”. The concept of misconstruing is practiced in every moment of our days. The least that could be done, is to take a deeper look; a person or thing could be solely different from one’s perspective point of view. Considering that this type of behavior is experienced in every moment of our lives.

People say “a book should never be judged by its cover”, though at the same time they judge a person by appearance. Carrying this kind of behavior to the working stations. Rewinding back to an era where women were seen best when performing domestic services. No women was seen as the leader back in the days, and why is that? Could it have been how they appeared in front of the male eyes? A woman would cook, give birth to her kids and raise them or probably go work in the gardens if not cleaning the house. A man will go work in the profession field, where he does office related work. Fast forwarding to the present, all of that has changed, women are also allowed to work in the profession, study and even overpower men in nowadays. Just because you have never seen someone do something, never for a moment think it’s because of the inability to do so, it’s just not the time for that to happen at that moment.

Take, by way of another example, Joshua, the son of the Buthelezi family in one of the societies. He was not much of a talker, spent his time contained in a corner somewhere alone. His siblings would tease him, and sometimes even say he was adopted. Time to time, Joshua really felt like an outsider, every time when he looks himself in a mirror, he would hear his sibling’s voices ringing in his head. He was too determined to let them get into him. He set his goals so high up that even if the ladder seemed to break, he never fell down. Joshua, the albino son of the Buthelezi family, it was hard for him to even play with other kids in the playground. Whenever he showed up to play with them, they would all scatter away, or if they were talking they would all go silent. He focused on his career, and he was the smartest in his family; he achieved his goals, and became a doctor.

Forming an opinion on someone, based purely on how they appear or on their skin color, is never telling the whole story lying behind that person’s surface. Gender or color of the skin can never determine one’s ability. Each and every person is capable of doing something, once they put their mind to it. If people don’t like you, that’s okay, not everyone has a similar taste anyway. Rushing to point out fingers and throwing judgements to people, is pointless unless you know them inside-out.

For once, in a life time, couldn’t we just expect as much as the other person expects from himself or herself. Instead of downgrading a person’s confidence, help to bring out the best in that person. Not everyone can deal positively with being judged for who they are; others will hide inside their shells forever, being afraid to try anything, and having fear of negative judgements coming from other people. You never know, one could be the reason behind every successful individual out there.

Answer:

The English idiom “don’t judge a book by its cover” is a figurative phrase which means “you shouldn’t judge significance of something by its outward appearance only”.

It is easier and faster to look at the instantaneous outer features of an object or a person. Many cannot deal with the troubling feeling of doubt (fear) when conversing with a stranger so to make it less challenging for themselves, they put a label on their new associate and act accordingly.

For example, you see a good-looking person and a bad-looking person. You know nothing about them except their skin colour, their physical traits and fashion. Then what? You make all sorts of thoughts and make a massive data in a minute just taking a look of their outward appearance. You may get attracted to the good-looking one but that could be a disaster for your life. He/she may not possess any real ability or talent. He/she can even turn out to be corrupt too. Outward appearance can be greatly misleading. There are utterly valueless things that look so good and taking them on their face value is foolishness.

On the other hand, some of the ugly looking things possess immense value. Their appearance is in no way equivalent to the worth they have. A person must be judged on the basis of his/her capabilities and not on his/her external appearance. Many of the truly good and great person are respectful.

Therefore assessment of people on the basis of appearance is a futile approach. For some people book cover is the summary of whole book in one page. Designers use colours, pictures and text to give a good impression of the content that the reader will find inside. Book cover is a great tool to develop the curiosity of the reader as the world is really fast that we have only time to take a look on its cover, so the cover is where they either accept or reject the book. However the books with eye-catching covers do not really mean that it is worth reading, it could be a waste of your precious time.

So readers, do not get misguided by the outward appearance of anything whether a person, a book or a thing.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.
