The Day That Changed My Life!!
I never knew it would come. It changed me and my life, my perspective with everything, and everyone I knew. My life changed…. from a tsunami.
It was the 24th December 2005. I was on a holiday with my family in Thailand. We stayed at the Hotel Ritz. There was my mum, Lily who had dark black hair with beautiful blue eyes. My dad, Mark had brown hair with brown eyes. I remember how he would never miss a football game, and, of course, my idiotic brother Luther, who had orange hair with green eyes. He and my dad were so funny!! The Hotel Ritz was a beautiful place with a pool connected to a diving board, a glass surrounding the outskirts of the hotel, and behind the glass there were tall green pine trees. Everyone was so nice there.
We just finished wrapping our presents for each other and walked down to the pool for a swim. After swimming for awhile, I jumped out and lay down on my towel. My mum was reading, while Luther and dad were playing in the pool. I then noticed that some pine trees were swaying wildly. Suddenly, realising that a tsunami was coming our way, I then ran towards the pool for safety in the water. Before I jumped in, I was roughly pulled back by the fierce ocean.
Hours later, I woke up stranded between broken building bits and water, but now closer to shore. There was no stream, so I was safe for now. I started to swim when I realised my leg was stuck. I also realised how much it hurt. I tried and tried to move my leg out, but I couldn’t. Suddenly, I saw my dad and called out to him and he quickly swam towards me and got my leg out. We then swam to a mountain where we guessed that there would be more people. When we arrived at the top of the mountain ( we also climbed the mountain ) , we saw a village and headed towards it. At the village, there was a group of dead bodies and a big wall with names on it. I suspected that it was the dead bodies’ names. So dad and I went and checked out the board. Sadly, we found my mother. I was heartbroken! After hours of crying we rested our heads. The next day, we searched the hospitals to look for Luther. Three days later, we finally found him in a hospital. Luckily, he was in the Hajiki Hospital. He was very very sick, but luckily alive. We held a funeral for mum when Luther was stable enough to move. A couple days later we headed on a plane and luckily got 1st class! and we safely travelled back home where we would be greeted with family that cared and still loved us!! Yes ,we did not live happily ever after, but I still had a good life.
