I have two deep, dark fears which rally with one another for top billing. When I first lost my faith and didn’t believe in an afterlife anymore, my greatest fear was death—saying goodbye to me. Up until then, my worst fear was the physical pain of dying. Now that I believe that we receive a sense of peace and see beautiful visions at the last minute of life and aren’t aware of the moment we slip away, the fear of death itself has taken somewhat of a backseat and has been replaced by the difficulties of being out of control, immobile, and in pain. This is the stuff of a panic attack for me.
