Productivity has always been an issue in government offices. The solution however, is not increasing the working hours, but improving efficiency and transparency, instead of adding to employees' frustration levels.

To begin with, increasing the present working hours in government offices will only lead to greater frustration among the employees. They will want to go home, and being unable to do so will cause job dissatisfaction. This in turn will cause greater loss of productivity.

Additionally, productivity cannot always be measured in terms of working hours. Instead, it needs to be understood in terms of efficiency. The staff in government offices need regular workshops and assessments to improve their productivity levels. Hence, the focus should be on quality of work (final output) rather than quantity (hours put in).

Furthermore, the greatest problem with government officials is the lack of transparency in their working. Even with extra working hours, they will continue to play the blame game till the time responsibility is not fixed. Therefore the solution is greater transparency, and not greater working hours.

It can be concluded that adding a few extra working hours each week is of no use, given that the main issues are lack of efficiency and transparency, and not a lack of time.
