Method - 1. Switch on the Bunsen and heat the soil sample for 5-10 mins.

Observation - Water is seen evaporating as steam away from the test tube.

Conclusion - Soil contains moisture and it can be removed by heating.

MATERIALS NEEDED - (1) Stand, (2) Boiling test tube, (3) Sample soil, (4) Burner and matchbox, (5) Physical balance an weights and (6) Newspaper

PROCEDURE-1. Fix the boiling test tube to the clamp attached to the stand.2. Put some amount of sample soil in it.3. Heat the soil over the burner flame for 5 minutes or till you observe the condensed water drops on the wall of the test tube.4. Then put off the flame when the colour of soil changes to light colour.

OBSERVATION-After heating the soil over flame for 5-10 minutes, drops of water condensed on the test tube wall can be seen.
