Observe the level of coloured water in the capillary tube. On heating the test tube, the air in the test tube expands and pushes the coloured water up. Stop heating the test tube and cool it. If the test tube is cooled, the air contracts and the level of the coloured water comes down to its original level.

Answer:

To show that water can expands due to heat.

Take a bottle and a balloon. Pour some hot water in it then tie the balloon on the neck of the bottle after some time u will observe that the balloon size is increasing... this is happening because the hot water in the bottle expands and pushes the air present in the bottle is going in the balloon
