Answer: The sunlight is necessary for photosynthesis because with the help of sunlight plant produce the process of photosynthesis because by this process they made their own food by the help of water in the presence of chlorophyll for them.

  \huge{ \purple{ \rm{\underline{\underline{Experiment...}}}}}

Refer to attachment-1 for experiment.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

 \large{ \underline{ \underline{ \rm{ \red{Aim}}}}}

✺To demostrate that sunlight is essential for photosynthesis.

 \large{ \rm{ \underline{ \underline{  \red{Method}}}}}

✺Take a potted plant and keep it in any dark room or place for nearly 2-3 days so that the leaves become destarched (as they can't produce glucose because of no photosynthesis) . Fold a black paper and cut out any design, Mine Choice is to cut a star. Now fix the black paper (you can also use aluminum/tin foil) on a leaves of the destarched potted plant. For fixing you can use cellotapes or paper clips. Alternatively attach a Ganong's light screen over it .

(Ganong's light screen is a small metallic box with a spring handle, Ventilated holes and a lid having a design cut in the centre.)

Refer to the attachment-2 for Ganong's light screen.

Now expose the paper attached leaf to sunlight for 2-3 hours. Now, Remove the black paper and Ganong's light screen. Pluck the leaf from the plant and test it for presence of starch.

  • First boil it to kill the cells drying out during folding or for that black paper.
  • Then warm in alchohol for 30-40 mins, for removing chlorophyll from the leaves.

⚠️━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

 \rm{ \red{Caution!!}} \:  \\ \rm{dont \: directly \: heat \: the \: alchohol \: as \: it \: may } \\  \rm{cause \: fire. \: use \: the \: boiling \: water. \:And \:place \:a\:test\: tube}\\ \rm{ containing\: alchohol\: and \:place\: \:the\: leaf \:in\: it.}

⚠️━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

  • Now Wash the leaves and pour iodine for testing of starch.

 \large{ \underline{ \underline{ \rm{ \red{Observation}}}}}

✺The covered part remains yellow or brownish while the parts that recieved the light became blue-black. The bluish black colour indicates the presence of starch in leaves.

 \large{ \rm{ \underline{ \underline{ \red{Conclusion}}}}}

✺Only the leaf part that recieved sunlight performs Photosynthesis and produces glucose (stored as starch) . The covered part don't recieved the sunlight ,hence they couldn't perform photosynthesis, Thus, no starch was found in them .

Therefore, Sunlight is essential for Photosynthesis.
