Acceleration due to gravity at height H IS GIVEN BY :
g¹=g(1-2h/R)

Ok so here the work done by gravity will be -mgh because the gravitational force is given by mg and displacement is h so work done will be force x displacement and as the direction of the gravitational force is downwards and the object is moving upwards thus the negative sign.
