Delhi Schools  to Reopen? Even After Lockdown, Classes With Only 30 per cent Students

New Delhi, 15 May 2020, 11.05 AM IST

By Shashank Gupta

The majority of people in Delhi do not want to send their children to school now because children are at greater risk of contracting COVID-19, but once a decision is taken to start up education activities, only 30% of the total student strength of students will be attending classes each day, reports have suggested.

According to news, the National Council for Education, Research, and Training has drawn up a plan for school reopening, but that will take some time — at least not during the fourth stage of lock-out, starting on 18 May. The NCERT Guideline recommends that teachers should only call 30% at one time,  in order to maintain social distance between children. There will be no play periods assembly, gathering of students, etc

Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi suggested earlier that schools can restart in the capital in July, but school activities will not be the kind of school during pre-COVID times. The state government asked Delhi people's suggestions on lock-down 4.0 a few days ago. Although the majority of people want to see stringent and phased reopening of markets, stores, public transit, reopening the schools was not a top priority.

Education institutes are also closed in green zones. Online classes take place while the central board papers assessment is also started. Delhi schools are shut down every year for summer holidays during May and June. People assume that only after summer holidays can schools start in July.
