The second of the movie franchise is one of my favourites and in my opinion is much better than the first movie- since the actors are finding their footing with the characters and things flow easier.
This movie gives a much better insight into Hardin Scott’s character than the first does and Hero does a great job. The first he’s simply a bad boy, who manipulated a girl into a relationship only to fall in love with her too.
This movie delves more into the trauma of his childhood, his relationship with his mum (the talented Louise Lombard, who I wish we saw more of as I love their dynamic together), his alcoholism and shows him breaking down his walls in an attempt to win Tessa back. He’s more vulnerable in the second movie than the first and is willing to take whatever steps necessary to deserve Tessa. He’s also more jealous in this movie but it’s a nice change of pace to see him grow as a character and reject friends/flings who are bad influences and try to make amends with other women he’s hurt in the past.
I genuinely think Hero’s performance in this movie is underrated. The emotions he portrays when fighting with his dad about his mums assault and the sheer love, fear, panic and heartbreak he puts forward when he realises Tessa has been in a car accident and he attempts to track her down are overshadowed and under-appreciated at times given the fan obsession with the sex scenes or his looks. I think his talent shines through in these scenes.
If you weren’t a BIG fan of the first, I’d recommend giving this one a watch anyway since it’s much more detailed.
