Dear Readers,

Sharing secrets is a common bonding ritual between friends.  One myself and my own friends indulge in frequently.

This story is a type of prologue that is disguised as a short story inspired by my friend stating the other day that if I was a vampire and didn't tell her, she would be mad as hell!

What secrets do you share with your friends?

Vote and comment if you like it and tell me if you don't.

Enjoy,

Stormy

“I’ve decided to leave my husband.”  Zoey announced suddenly at the table.

The other three women all gaped at her.  It was their monthly meet-up for gossip, wine and food.

Blair was the first to recover.  “What?  Why?  When?”

“It’s simple; I can’t stand to live in the same house as him anymore, and as soon as possible.”  She took a long sip of her white wine spritzer.

Vivienne was next.  “But how come you never told us you were having problems?  I thought you were happily married!  We don’t keep secrets from each other! “

Lily seemed more sombre.  “What are you going to do now?”

Zoey pushed the food around on her plate.  “Get a flat and move out.  He wants us to go to counselling, but short of the therapist being Dr Phil, there is not a therapist alive that’s going to save this mess.  I’m not in love with him anymore.”

“Well, since we are sharing; I slept with Jake.”  Blair announced.  Blair is a cougar in training.  She’s had her eye on the strapping young gym instructor for a while now and once he caught a whiff of her interest, it was game over.  He was also a decade younger than Blair, but of course this did nothing to curb her enthusiasm.

“WHAT?!”  Lily exclaimed!  “When?”

All eyes flew from Blair to Lily’s outraged face.  Lily has had the biggest crush on Jake forever.  He was her sole reason for going to the gym.  After she gushed about him at one of their meetings Blair decided to switch gyms and sneak a peek at the eye-candy.

Of course, none of the group knew how deep her feelings ran, least of all Blair and since they rarely went to the gym at the same time, Lily didn’t know that Blair had started flirting with him after faking a hamstring injury.

Lily wasn’t a cougar.  She was the youngest in the group of friends and not as assertive as the other women.   Realizing she acted a little strongly, she quickly recovered her composure and smoothed her features.

“I mean, I didn’t even know you know him.  When did you hook up?”

The eyes flew back to Blair, who loved publicising her latest conquests.  “Last weekend after the gym closed, right on the bench in the change-room.”

Lily tried to take a big gulp of red wine unnoticed.  She was in shock, and devastated.  It was that same weekend she finally got the courage together to talk to Jake and they had mango smoothies at the juice bar during his break.  Lily had been planning on sending him a secret Valentines card next week.

When she tuned back into the conversation, Vivienne had taken the spotlight by confessing that she had gotten a colleague fired for taking credit for work that she had done.

Explanation:

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon in the hot simmering month of July. Mother was reading her favorite book in a cozy and peaceful corner of our home, whereas Father was browsing through the T.V. channels. It was a very satisfying moment of the day since it was to be followed by a heavy brunch. Little did I know that this peaceful aura was going to turn into something extraordinary.I was in my room, deciding on a very important matter regarding my dolls’ dresses. There was soon to be a competition called “Show and Tell” in school, whereby each participant had to show-off his/her favorite item and talk about it. Suddenly something moved in the room. I glanced to the other side. It all seemed fine. Just then suddenly, something zoomed over my head with a low buzzing sound! I stood up jolted, wide-eyed and looking in all directions frantically, not believing what I saw. “Please, don’t scream! Please, don’t scream!” exclaimed a doll, in a sweet voice, with wings, hovering mid-air, looking at me with doe-eyes. Mustering courage, I replied, “Who are you?! How are you flying? Are you alive?”“My name is Merryweather and I live in the forests, among the rarest of flowers found on the Earth. I am a fairy.”“A fairy! But they don’t exist, do they? Isn’t magic and fairies a myth? A fantasy?” I blabbered. “No, there are many other fairies like me where I live. However, we don’t venture out of the forest during the day in fear of men. I have heard, men do not treat Mother Nature well. Our Fairy Queen says men exploit nature. Is it true?” While the little doll-fairy was talking, her dress changed colors with her flapping butterfly-wings giving out sparkle dust. She really was a fairy! The next day, I was excited for the “Show and Tell” competition in school. I stood first for the same; everybody could not stop praising and admiring my doll. And while everybody was doing so, Merryweather and we winked at each other and giggled because she was my own little secret!
