He was the funniest boy I had ever met. He would make everyone laugh even in the most trying times. Blessed with a funny nature, Varun would make everyone forget his/her worries in his company. No amount of sadness could dampen his spirit.
I remember, once three of us friends including Varun had failed the chemistry exam badly. Our parents had been called and we were told that most certainly, we would have to repeat a year. That was a very hard time but even then no look of worry could be spotted on Varun’s face or in his behaviour. Even his cheer was undiminished when his father suffered a major financial loss in business. Even in those times, Varun was known to spread cheer around. He pushed his worries to the backseat and dedicated himself towards making others happy.
However, the loss of Varun’s pet Veeto some months ago, immersed him in grief. That was the only time which robbed him of his smiling face. For days he did not speak to anyone and shut himself up in his room. We could not see him like that, so all of us friends decided to do something to dispel his gloom.
One day, we all went to his place and rang the door bell of his house. There we kept a little box, slightly open from one side and hid ourselves so that he could not see us. When he opened the door, he was surprised to find no one. He picked up the box with a look of amazement on his face. He took the lid off, and there came out a pug, quite like Veeto. He held it in his hands and started to play with it. It brought the smile back on his face. Then we all came into the sight and uttered with excitement, ‘surprise’.
Indeed, that little effort from our end, helped Varun come out of his depression.

From the other room, came sounds of immense pain. it had been his father. Besides the maturity of his father, many other specs added to the agony of Bellard’s father. These specs included many uncommon diseases like influenza, Diabetes, etc.
Mr. Bellard was a fashionable man. along with money, comes responsibility. He was too busy to look after his ill father. There was quietness everywhere in the space, which was broken by the rustling of pages before Bellard. He sipped his third cup of coffee. Since midnight, he sat there in silence, gazing at the papers, and to make a choice. He was in turmoil, utter turmoil. At last, he leaned back, took a deep breath, grabbed a pen, and signed the papers before him. Those were the papers, by which Bellard’s father was to be handover-ed to an adulthood home. it had been difficult for him to choose, He had two choices, And now he had made his choice.
That day he took his half-alive father to the adulthood home. After returning home, he was afflicted with insomnia, Loneliness, etc, But very soon he recovered and was back to his work. He was accustomed to visiting the maturity home weekly, then it got transformed to fortnightly, then monthly, then six-monthly.
it was a pleasant evening in early January when Bellard decided to travel to his father. it was almost seven months later, he was visiting him. As he reached the exterior door of 721C, within which his father was kept, he could hear two people murmuring. He went inside and learned that there is this, one fellow, who visits his father weekly and takes care of him. “Who are you” was a true question by Mr.Bellard. The stranger replied pointing towards Bellard’s Father “This man, you will see here, is my model. I add an orphanage which is next to this maturity home. Thirty years before, this man visited my orphanage. there are many children there, but from among all the kids, he decided to adopt the one, who was afflicted with many diseases and wasn't normal. I warned him against the adoption because the possibilities of survival of that 2 year's child were less. Still, this great personality made efforts for a much better life. That day I understood, that humanity and selflessness had a face too!” Bellard was dumbstruck after hearing this. His emotions didn’t allow him to speak.
After the stranger left, Bellard broke down and gave his dad an honest hug of affection, which was mingled with regret. Soon after some seconds, he felt his father’s body turn cold. He grabbed the stethoscope kept next to his bed and heard, heard the sound, which wasn’t present, a sound of forgiveness. He had innumerable useless sorry in his heart. His father had never told him this reality, I suppose just during this day and age. That half-alive man was alive just for this loving hug by his son.
