Mr. Van Daan is the head of one of the families, who help the Franks to escape and to find a place to live in hiding. He is short tempered and picks up quarrels with his wife from time to time. In spite of this he gets along well with Anne Frank.
His selfishness is evident from the way he has his meals – as he always has the largest portion of the meal.
His conversations are always with the attitude of being a ‘know-all’.
