SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

Write and solve a real world addition problem involving the sum of a rational number and it’s additive inverse.

EVALUATION

Word problem : Ram and Shyam are two brothers . Ram has ₹ 100 and he gives ₹ 45 to Shyam. Find the amount left of Ram

Concept to implement :

We know that 0 is the additive identity.

Let A be a rational number

B be the additive inverse of A

Then A + B = 0

⇒ B = - A

Additive inverse of A is - A

Solution of word problem :

Let the amount left in Ram = ₹ x

So by the given condition

x + 45 = 100

Additive inverse of 45 is - 45

Adding both sides by - 45 we get

x + 45 - 45 = 100 - 45

⇒ x + 0 = 55

⇒ x = 55

Hence the money left of Ram = 55
