1) Nuclear fission is splitting of atoms with heavy nucleus, whereas fusion is merging of atoms with small nucleus

2) Fission can be uncontrolled because of chain reaction but fusion is always controlled

3) Technology for fission exists and widely used, but fusion is still a theory and is not yet carried out in real life

4) Fission does not require high temperature but fusion requires about 100 million Kelvin temperature - 6 times hotter than sun's core

5) Raw materials for fission are uranium, plutonium etc which are costly and rare but raw materials for fusion are hydrogen and helium which are easily available
