The human endocrine system consists the following endocrine glands:

1) Thyroid gland: It is originated and developed form the endoderm of the embryo. It is located at the Thyroid cartilage of the larynx in the neck region.
Function: They regulate metabolic rate of the body and thus maintain basal metabolic rate (known as BMR)

2) Parathyroid glands: They are developed and originated from the endoderm of the embryo. It consists of 4 separate glands on the lower posterior surface of the lobes of the thyroid gland.
Function: It secretes a hormone called parathyroid hormone or parathormone which help in and increase the calcium absorption from the intestines and increase the calcium resorption from the nephrons.

3) Adrenal Glands: Or Suprarenal glands also known as glands of emergency are some paired structures located at the top of the kidney.
Function: They contain Mineralcorticoids which are responsible for the regulation of mineral absorption, hence, the name was given.

4) Hypothalamus: Hypothalamus originates and are developed from the ectoderm of the embryo which are inferior or placed lower to that of the thalamus.
Function: It has many functions including the stimulation of Growth hormone-releasing Hormone which relate growth home helping the body cells and the body to increase in height.

5) Pituitary glands: It is originated and developed from the ectoderm of the embryo and is located just below or posterior or inferior to the hypothalamus.
Function: They stimulate Thyroid stimulating Hormone and release growth Hormone.

The exocrine glands are the ducted glands which are sweat glands, salivary glands, mammary glands, sebaceous glands and mucous glands. They all have the respective functions for maintaining metabolism and heat regulation, breaking down of the carbohydrates containing and starch containing foods, lactation of milk, sebum is released for keeping the skin in a required temperature and mucous for keeping the tracheal wall and other parts of body moist, dust and pathogen-free.
