Blood has three main functions: transport, protection and regulation. Blood transports the following substances: Gases, namely oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2), between the lungs and rest of the body. Nutrients from the digestive tract and storage sites to the rest of the body

✔ In arteries, blood pressure is more whereas in veins blood pressure is less.

✔ RBCs of blood contains haemoglobin which acts as oxygen-carrier. It transports oxygen to all the necessary body parts.

✔ Blood maintains the water-salt balance in the body cells or tissues.

✔ Blood platelets also helps in blood clotting.

✔ WBCs present in blood performs PHAGOCYTOSIS, i.e., engulfing solid food materials.

✔ It provides a medium for fluid metabolism.

✔ It carries hormones from the endocrine glands to different organs of the body where they are needed.
