To Do :-

  • To show a experiment that light travels in a straight line.

ExperimenT :-

Light travels in a straight line . The phenomenon of light to travel in a straight line is called Rectilinear Propagation of Light .

\sf\underline{\underline{\red{ Aim \ of \ experiment :- }}}

  • Experimentally verify that Light travels in a straight line .

\sf\underline{\underline{\red{ Things \ Required :- }}}

  • A cardboard , a candle , a punching machine and a matchbox .

\sf\underline{\underline{\red{ Procedure:- }}}

  • Take all the three cardboards of equal sizes and arrange them one over another so that they overlap each other .
  • Take a candle and mark the height of the candle on the cardboard .
  • Taking a puching machine , puch a hole on the three cardboards a little above the mark .
  • Now arrange all the cardboard one after another on a table . Put the candle Infront I the boards .
  • Light up the candle . Now go to another side of the table and try to see through the hole .
  • Again shift the middle cardboard from its position a little bit .

\sf\underline{\underline{\red{ Observations :- }}}

  • We see that when the cardboards are arranged line by line , we can see the light of the candle when we see through the hole.
  • But when we shift the cardboard , we are not able to see the light of the candle .

\sf\underline{\underline{\red{ Conclusion }}}

  • From all our observations we conclude that the light travels in a straight line .
