The molecules, atoms or ions in solids are closely packed, i.e., they are held together by strong forces and cannot move about atrandom. Thus solids have definite volume, shape, slow diffusion, low vapour pressure and possess the unique property of being rigid. Such solids are known as true solids.

Solid State:

  1. it has definite shape, size& volume.
  2. solids are strong and rigid.
  3. intermolecular force is high.
  4. intermolecular space is less.
  5. these have high melting and boiling point.

6.example: copper, silver, gold.

Liquid state:

  1. it has no definite shape and size but have definite volume.
  2. liquid are mobile in nature.
  3. intermolecular less than solid but more than gas.
  4. intermolecular space is more than solid but less than gas.
  5. these have two melting and boiling point than solid but more than gas.
  6. example:water,oil.

Gaseous state:

  1. it has no definite shape and size nor definite volume.
  2. gases are compressible.
  3. intermolecular forces is less.
  4. intermolecular space is high.
  5. these have low melting and boiling point.
  6. example: Oxygen, Nitrogen
