1. Gamma radiation - 10¹⁸ - 10²² Hz. Properties - Very similar to the X-rays. Can ionize gases.
2. X-rays - Frequency is 10¹⁶ - 10¹⁹ Hz. Properties - Can penetrate matter. Allows studying space lattice in crystals and to measure wavelengths. Gives fluorescence.
3. UV rays - Frequency is 10¹⁶ - 10¹⁷ Hz. Properties - causes chemical reactions. Harmful to living beings.
4. Visible light - Frequency is 4 - 7 x 10¹⁴ Hz. Properties - Polarization and intensity. Cause chemical reactions.
5. Infra-red - Frequency is 10¹¹ - 5 x 10 ¹⁴ Hz. Less scattered when compared to visible light. Helps in elucidating the molecular structure.
