The Wildlife Protection Act, 1972: It was introduced with the aim of protecting the wildlife of the country, control poaching, smuggling and illegal trade in wildlife. It was amended in 2003 and the punishment of any offence under this act was made stricter. The main objective is to provide protection to the listed endangered plants and animals and ecologically important areas.
The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974: This was introduced to provide prevention and control of water pollution in the country.
