well, gravity is the only force capable of consistently pulling atoms together (whereas electrical and magnetic fields can be attractive or repulsive), so without gravity the universe would be filled with an evenly-dispersed gas with no solid objects. So I guess you could say gravity is pretty important to the Earth.
