Michôd's script was inspired by events which involved the Pettingill criminal family of Melbourne, Victoria. In 1991, two brothers Trevor Pettingill and Victor Peirce (along with two other men: Anthony Leigh Farrell and Peter David McEvoy) were acquitted in the 1988 shooting murder of two Victorian police officers.

Animal Kingdom was critically acclaimed. It received 36 awards and 39 nominations, and Jacki Weaver received multiple awards for her performance, as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.[3]

Once the king of the jungle was holding court in the forest when a jackal came running to him. He sounded so out of breath which made the king wonder how he could have come in such a way. After he was given some time o breathe, he told the court that there are a group of game hunters looking for animals to be taken as trophies. He also told them that the men have no qualms on what animal they kill, as long as it is from the forest.  

The king was fuming with anger and wanted to make sure that no one is hurt. So he issued a warning to all the animals of his kingdom to run to safety and stay hidden until he himself issues another announcement. Due to this warning, all of the animals were saved from being killed and the hunters returned empty handed. Even the most proud hunter who had boasted of bagging himself at least a dozen rabbits had to stay silent and blame the other un-experienced hunters from ruining the whole competition. The timely warning by the jackal had saved everyone in the forest.
