Three challenges that an ordinary citizen might face if he wishes to contest elections are:
a. Ordinary citizens may find difficulty in getting tickets against any established parties or candidates. Candidates and parties with a lot of money do enjoy a big and unfair advantage.
b. In some parts of the country, candidates with criminal connection have been able to push others out of the electoral race and to secure a ‘ticket’ from major parties which again becomes a challenge for an ordinary citizen who then bears the brunt of the muscle power of parties and candidates.
c. Families tend to dominate politics, members of the family and their close associates generally get tickets to contest, sidelining ordinary citizens.
