Colloids are unlike solutions because their dispersed particles are much larger than those of a solution. The dispersed particles of a colloid cannot be separated by filtration, but they scatter light, a phenomenon called the Tyndall effect.

Colloids:

● the particle size is between 10^-9 to 10^-7

● Here the component which is present in large amount is called Dispersion medium and the component present in less amount is called dispersed phase.

Eg : milk

Suspension :

● The particle size is between 10^-7 to 10^-5

10^-7 to 10^-5

●Here the component which is present in large amount is called Solvent and component present in small amount is called Solute.

Eg : muddy water

Similarities:

They both are heterogeneous mixtures
