Cripps Mission

- It came in India in 1942 to seek India's support for British in World War II.

- The main proposal of this mission is to give India liberty to frame its own constitution if it accedes to the British's proposals .

- No transfer of real power.

Cabinet Mission

- It came in India in 1946.

- It proposed an undivided India and an interim government for India.

- It proposed formation of constituent assemblies all over India.

- It gives India an independent status with real transfers of power.

Differences in the Cripps Mission and the Cabinet Mission Plan

Explanation:

1 (a) In late March 1942, the Cripps Mission sought to gain full Indian assistance and to support their participation in the Second World War through the British government.

2 (b) Whereas, The Cabinet Mission arrived in India to negotiate the transition of authority from the British to the Indian government, to maintain and protect India 's stability & granting of its independence

2. (a)The Cripps Mission was a however a failed attempt  of the British government. In exchange for a guarantee of elections and complete democracy (dominion status) after the war ended, Cripps worked in keeping India committed to the British war effort . Cripps discussed and reported the ideas he had drawn up with the Indian representatives. However they had rejected the suggestion.

2 (b) For India, the Mission proposed a complicated three-level system: provinces, provincial groups and the center. The power of the center should be limited to foreign affairs, defense, foreign exchange and communication. All other powers were kept in the provinces and three groups could be established. The main feature of the plan was that the province grouping. The Congress approved the amendments affecting the Constituent Assembly. But since then, the Muslim league was disproportionately represented; the proposal of the provisional government had been dismissed

3.  (a) Stafford Cripps led the Cripps Mission. He was joined by Lord Privy Seal. Other members of the Council of State included the head of the House of Commons, etc.

3 (b) At the behest of Clement Attlee, United Kingdom Prime Minister, the mission comprised the Lord Pethick-Lawrence, Stafford Cripps State Secretary of India, Chairman of the Board of Trade and AV Alexander, First Lord of the Admiralty.
