Some disadvantages of PDS are :-

i) Irregular opening of the ration shops

ii) PDS sellers are sometimes found resorting to malpractices like diverting the grain to open market to get better margin.

iii) Selling poor quality grains at ration shops.

iv) Sometimes the sellers add stones and sands to the product to increase the weight.

v) The sellers give the poor quality products to the poor people.

PDS dealers sometimes divert the grains to open market to get better price. When the ration shops are unable to sell their food grains a large amount of food grains pile up with the FCI . Earlier the ration shops used to give all the people the food at a lower price ,even to the people with an APL ration card but now the people with different ration cards are sold food at different prices.
