Answer:

There are several different types of instrument types, such as:

  • Aerophones: An aerophone is a musical instrument typically used to produce sound by causing a column of air to vibrate. In these types of musical instruments, no strings or membranes of any sort are used, also the instrument itself should not be vibrating. Some examples of these instruments are: woodwind and brass.
  • Chordophones: A chordophone is a musical instrument that usually uses strings to produce sound. The strings are stretched between two points and struck in order to produce sound, they can be struck by guitar picks, a violin's bow (fiddlestick) and so on. Some examples of these instruments are: Violin, guitar, harps, lutes and so on.
  • Idiophones: An idiophone is an instrument that creates sound by the vibration of the musical instrument itself, and it doesn't use the help of air flow. It's usually a resonant solid material. Some examples of these instruments are: gong, xylophones, rattles and so on.
  • Membranophones: Membranophones are usually musical instruments such as drums, which have a stretched membrane over a hollow opening and can be struck by our hands or sticks to produce sound. Some examples of these instruments are: petia, sogo, bongo, the bedhug and the kazoo and so on.
  • Electrophones : Electrophones are the musical instruments that are electrically amplified to produce sound. It could be anything such as a guitar, a piano and so on.

Hope this helps you. Learned all of this recently in music class so could share!
