Cricket was an English game.It was invented in England and became immediately linked to the culture of 19th century Victorian society. It represented the English values - fare play , discipline , gentlemanliness , all that englishness. With the British , cricket spread to the colonies.

The game of cricket did not spread in South America as widely as it did in India because it was not under the British rule for as compared to India.Instead the game of football was famous there.
