Answer:

It is used as an antacid to treat heartburn, indigestion, and upset stomach. Sodium bicarbonate is a very quick-acting antacid. It should be used only for temporary relief. If you need to treat long-term stomach acid problems (such as peptic ulcer disease, GERD), talk with your doctor about other medications.

(a) For making baking powder - Baking powder is a mixture of starch, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate ) and a mild edible acid (e.g. tartaric acid).

BicarbonateSodiumNaCHO3+mildacidFromtheH+→CO2+H2O+(Backingpowder)sodiumsaltofacid

Baking powder is used in baking of cakes, breads etc.

The CO2 produced during the reaction helps in making the cake or bread spongy.

(b) Sodium carbonate is alkaline and is thus as an ingredient in preparing antacids. It neutralizes the excess acidity in stomach.

(c) It is used in the fire extinguisher.
