We all know that Lightning is indeed dangerous . many people are killed and great loss property.
Advantages of Lightning:
Nitrogen Fixation :
Our atmosphere contains 70% Nitrogen but this nitrogen exist in a form which plants cannot use.It breaks the nitrogen bonds and nitrogen further form compounds which gets dissolved in water . Rain carries this nitrates to plants and it acts as fertilizer.
Protecting Harmful ultra violet sunlight :
Lightning produces Ozone , a vital gas in our atmosphere that protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet radiations.

Uses of lightining :-
It is believed that lightining played a major role in the evolution of life on the Earth.
---> Fixation of atmospheric nitrogen by electric discharge during lightining.
During rains, when lightining strikes nitrogen and oxygen of the atmosphere combine to form nitric acid after series of reactions. Rainwater brings the nitric acid to the earth. Nitric Acid reacts with some alkalies in the soil, e.g; limestone (CaCO₃) to form nitrates. These nitrates serve as plant food and are responsible for their growth.
---> Formation of ozone from the atmospheric oxygen.
Electric discharge during lightning results in the formation of ozone (O₃) from oxygen (O₂). Ozone layer in the earth's Atmosphere absorbs ultraviolet radiation coming from the Sun and protects the living organisms on the earth.
