Advantages of Optical Fibre cables in Telecommunication signal Transmission:
Optical Fibres can be laid underground. They do not get destroyed. They are reliable for long durations. They are not too heavy.
1. The electrical signals are converted into laser light signals. The optical signals travel in optical fibres by a phenomenon known as total internal reflection. So the energy loss is minimum over long distances. This is a clear advantage over copper wires or other wires.
2. The bandwidth available on Optical fibres is very large. Also multiple carrier signals of different frequencies can be transmitted too.
3. Optical fibre cables are not disturbed by electromagnetic interference. Lightning or other high power electrical cables do not disturb data being transmitted inside the optical fibres.
