x^4 + 3x^2 - 6x + 5 = 0 and  x^2y^2 + 3xy^2 - 6xy + 5x - 2y = 4

1) The degree of a polynomial with only one coefficient is described as the highest power  of the terms available in the polynomial that have non - zero coefficients.

2) The given First Equation is in one variable and the term with highest power is x^4. hence the degree of first equation is 4.

3) The degree of a polynomial with more than one coefficient is described as the highest sum of powers of all the variables in each given term which has non - zero coefficient.

4) In The second equation the first term consist of x^2 and y^2, so the sum of powers is 4.

Hence the degree is also 4.
