Vascular bundles radial in roots but conjoint in stem.

- Xylem exarch in roots but endarch in stem.

OR

- Hypodermis absent in roots but present in stem.

- Root hair present in root but absent in stem.

-Trichomes absent in roots, but present in stem.

- Cuticle absent in root, but present in stem.

The Stem develops from the plumule of the embryo while the root develops from the radicle of the embryo.

  • The major anatomical differences between stem and Root of Angiosperms are:-
  • Epidermal cells present in the stem are cutinized(deposition of cutin layer) while cutinization is absent in the root epidermis.
  • Vascular tissues are generally conjoint and collateral whereas in root these are in a radial arrangement.
  • Stomata are completely absent in roots.
  • Root hairs are usually unicellular whereas, in Stem, the hairs can be unicellular or multicellular.
  • In stems, the cortex is differentiated into several regions such as inner, middle and outer cortical regions but the cortex is undifferentiated in roots.
  • The Endodermis is not prominent in stems while it is distinct and clearly observable in roots.
  • The Pericycle is generally multilayered in stems but in roots if present it is single-layered.
