GPS stands for Global Positioning System which was first used and owned by the United States Army but, now it is owned by Government of the United States. It is based on radio waves communication through satellites. Through it, any location on the earth can be traced by the satellites.

It is most commonly used in navigation which includes navigation for aviation companies and also marine areas. It is also used in defense sector where terrorist groups can be attacked by tracking their locations.

It has also been extensively used in weather navigation as it is used to monitor climatic changes, it is used is issuing early cyclone warnings, etc. It has also made telecommunications easy as it is not dependent on radio towers to pick the signals but the signals are directly picked up by satellites and are transmitted to the receiver.
