A single stool examination has a low sensitivity of detecting the parasite (129). The best diagnosticmethod is detection of E. histolytica antigen or DNA in stool (78, 79). Clinical diagnosis of amebiasis is difficult because of the nonspecific nature of symptoms.

The trophozoites are motile forms of Entamoeba hisolytica, which adhere to and invade intestinal epithelial cells which line the gastrointestinal tract. The cytoplasm has projections called pseudopodia and frequently contains many red blood cells (RBCs) that have been ingested. The trophozoites of E. histolytica always have a single nucleus. these are the main features from which this organisms disease can be identified.
