Interference occur due to interaction between primary wavefronts originating from two coherent sources . But diffraction is the result of interaction between two secondary wavelets originating from two different points of same wavefront.

Difference between diffraction and interference patterns are :

1. In interference pattern, all maxima and all minima are of same width but in diffraction pattern, width of central maxima is maximum and for successive maxima, it goes on decreasing.

2. In interference pattern, each maxima have same intensity while in diffraction pattern, intensity of central maxima is largest and it decreases rapidly for successive maxima.
