BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is a political party, while NDA (National Democratic Alliance) is an alliance, a coalition of political parties formed by BJP in 1998 to form government in India.

The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is a coalition of centre-left political parties in India formed after the 2004 general election. One of the members of UPA is Indian National Congress, whose president Sonia Gandhi is also the chairperson of the UPA.
