What are the functions of areolar tissue?
A group of cells along with intercellular substances that perform a specific function is called tissue.
Areolar Tissue: Areolar tissue is the most widely distributed connective tissue in the animal body. It is present under the skin and supports epithelium. It contains randomly distributed fibres, fibroblasts, mast cells and macrophages. It supports the organs present in the abdominal cavity, fills the space between muscle fibres and wraps around blood and lymph vessels. They are also found in, around the mucous membranes, surrounding nerves, blood vessels and various other body organs.
