An organic compound has molecules containing carbon. However some carbon compounds such as carbides, carbonates, simple oxides of carbon and cyanides are considered inorganic. With exception to the compounds mentioned, inorganic compounds do not contain carbon and are not derived from living matter.

Keeping these definitions in mind, the list of organic or inorganic compounds would be almost impossible to make as the other writers have suggested. However the number of organic compounds far exceed the inorganic ones due to the unique ability of carbon atom to form bonds with other elements. New compounds are discovered everyday and so it is impractical to make a complete list.
