The positively charged particles and the majority of an atom's mass were contained in an incredibly small volume, according to the Rutherford atomic model. This part of the atom was dubbed a nucleus by him. The Rutherford model stated that the nucleus of an atom is surrounded by negatively charged electrons.
Two observations of Rutherford model of an atom are,
- In his experiment almost all the alpha particles did come across through the foil.
- There are also some alpha particles which were deflected off at different angles as observed at the screen of the detector.
