Test 1: When we add salt to water, the salt gets dissolved completely in water, leaving no residue behind but when we add sand to water, the sand does not dissolve in water at all. Hence, we can see sand in water and no salt in water.

Test 2: When we filter the solution of (salt + water) and (salt + sand) with the help of funnel and filter paper, we see the sand on the filter paper whereas in other case, no salt is seen on the surface of filter paper.

These two tests can distinguish between salt in water or sand in water.
