This pyruvate in the absence of oxygen in yeast or lower organisms break down into ethanol ,carbon dioxide and ATP. In lack of oxygen in our muscle cell pyruvate break down into lactic acid and energy in form of ATP.In presence of oxygen. Pyruvate breaks down into carbon dioxide and water and energy in form of ATP.
