Explanation:

- Availability of information.

The tourist must be informed; he must have a map or clear addresses of the places he visits, he must know where to turn in case of emergency, he must know evacuation routes. Uncertainty increases the fear of suffering any type of loss. It is essential that tourists receive such information in their own language; in this respect we are not only referring to signage systems, but also to the fact that the staff of the tourist industry who come into contact with the tourist must speak the language.

- Surroundings of places visited or transited.

The lack of hygiene, vagabonds, prostitution in public streets, poor lighting of alleys and streets, poor state of public services, are just some aspects that give a negative image of the place and prevent the full enjoyment of recreation of the tourist, because it is more concerned with preventing an assault or an attack to enjoy the destination.

It is here where we can say that the application of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) is the ideal tool, both in the public and in the private, to avoid disasters of the most varied types and also contribute to the image of the place.

- Police presence and uniformed private security.

Although we will say that security is a sensation of subjective order, it is sustained by objective and real perceptions. The presence of security personnel is the best example of this.

The presence of the same ones gives tranquility to the tourist and, better still, if the effective of security speaks his same language, contributing this way to the information of the visitor.

- Confidence, lack of awareness.

The tourist arrives at the tourist destination with expectations, wants to know everything in the short time he has and, as he is relaxed, forgets the main prevention guidelines that surely in his place of origin is always present.

This tendency is common in young men (usually between 21 and 35 years old) who travel alone, who mistakenly maintain the philosophy that "nothing will happen to me". Filled wallets, cameras, cell phones, handbags, etc., make it a tempting target for the delinquent, especially for the "careless", with theft being one of the main crimes suffered by foreign tourists.

- The tourist does not report the crimes suffered.

Sometimes out of embarrassment, but usually does not do so to avoid wasting time, the tourist's only non-refundable resource. In this sense it is important to point out that tourist problems must be dealt with quickly, their time is scarce and they do not want to waste it in police stations or filling out forms.

Answer:

India, a big country, is unique in its diversity.  From the majestic mountains of Jammu and Kashmir to the famous Vivekananda rock beyond the southern tip of the land, tourists have beautiful sights to see and wonderful sounds to hear. As Foreign and Local tourists are growing in number every day, it is imperative the Governments at the Centre and in the States provide security at tourist spots.

The ministries of Tourism and Home ought to join hands in a bigger way to ensure that security at tourist spots is tightened if the Indian Government wishes to see further growth of the tourism industry. Besides being a major foreign exchange earner, tourism also has an immense potential as a source of employment, both direct and indirect.

Besides protection from pretty thefts, adequate measures must be taken of personal safety, especially that of women and children.  Surveillance mechanisms must be set up at tourist spots so that the visitors feel safe and secure.

Today, terrorism is another threat that most nations across the world face. Tourist spots are places where terrorists could strike to lower the image of India and maximise the effects of their nefarious motives as they would find a big gathering in such places. The state and the Central Governments must, there, be very vigilant at the places of tourist interest and not be caught napping when terrorists actually strike.
