We can define poverty as the condition where the basic needs of a family, like food, shelter, clothing, and education are not fulfilled. It can lead to other problems like poor literacy, unemployment, malnutrition, etc. A poor person is not able to get education due to lack of money and therefore remains unemployed. An unemployed person is not able to buy enough & nutritious food for his family and their health decline. A weak person lacks the energy required for the job. A  jobless person remains poor only. Thus we can say that poverty is the root cause of other problems.

Poverty or the state of being poor is prevalent in every corner of India. A huge number of villages are present that are highly poverty stricken. Also, there are underdeveloped sections of the cities which are filled with poor people.

While a particular section of society is living a luxurious life with an abundance of power and money, another section of society is still fighting for the basic necessities of life such as food, clothing, water and shelter.

Poverty mainly arises due to the huge population in India which results in a shortage of resources, employment opportunities, underdeveloped infrastructure, poor health, etc. The caste system is another big reason for such unequal distribution of wealth in society.

It is our responsibility as citizens to empower our country. The government should take serious steps in generating awareness about such grave issues and also by creating job opportunities which would help to solve this problem to some extent.
